Tribute

CALDER, A. STUART May 1, 1947, Winnipeg. Age 63) It is with shock and
great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear father,
A. Stuart Calder, on Christmas Eve 2010. Stu was a generous, kind
hearted man. He was a proud father and grandfather, and instilled his
love of music, travel and adventure in his two children. He loved
social events, so much so that he was often helping to organize or
host one. He was a huge part of the music scene while growing up in
Victoria and an award winning pianist. Teaching was one of his
passions and he enjoyed his long career as a school teacher in the
Saanich School District in Victoria. Once retired, he became an active
member of the community in Mill Bay.

He was a member of many different clubs and organizations, and on the
boards of most of those of which he was a member. He enjoyed helping
others and was always donating his free time to help good friends and
good causes. He loved playing piano at his church, Sylvan United, and
at Keating Elementary, accompanying his school choir for years even
after he had retired.

He is pre-deceased by his loving father and mother, Rev. Alex and Anne
Calder and his ex-wife, Lynn Calder. He is survived by his son Stephen
(Kanako) and their son Ren, his daughter Kathryn (Colin), his brothers
Milton (Jean) and Stephen (Linda) and their families as well as his
beloved dog, Farley, a constant companion.

Stu passed away in Vancouver while visiting friends. Due to
complications with his heart, he had a massive stroke while he was
sleeping. He left us peacefully and without suffering, for which we
are very grateful. He will be deeply missed by many. We love you Dad!

We would like to thank Rev. Murray Groom and the congregation of his
church, Sylvan United, his Masonic brothers, The Shriners, the Legion,
Victoria Male Choir, and all of his friends for the part that each and
every one played in our father”s life. He thoroughly enjoyed spending
time with all of you.

A memorial service will be held on the 8th of January, 2011 at Sylvan
United Church in Mill Bay at 1pm (www.sylvanunited.ca, (250)
743-4659). Given that Stu was an avid supporter of many local
charities, in lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your
choice, or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC or Canada would be
greatly appreciated.
