Tribute
Gerald Reginald Jackson aka “Cookie”
February 4, 1949 – June 15, 2019
Surrounded by family and lots of love, he passed away at Cowichan District Hospital from complications of Myelodysplastic Syndrome.
Self styled Mr. Low Key–Low Profile, he was always known for his big, kind heart and willingness to put others before himself. He handled his illness with uncommon grace, leaving us forever grateful that he was ours. He told a friend not to be sad for him as he had enjoyed a great life, travelled to wonderful places and had seen great things. He was a happy and contented man.
Born in Mission, BC he attended UBC and was quite proud to let it be known that he had studied under David Suzuki. His working life as a Millwright in the Pulp and Paper industry saw him go from BCFP in Crofton to Alpac in Athabasca, AB and from there to Kalimantan, Indonesia for another mill start up. 5 years later he returned to Canada and was off to Footner in High Level, AB for another start up and then to Neucel in Port Alice until he retired, returning home to Duncan.
Retirement found him enjoying his time gardening, stamp and baseball card collecting, reading voraciously, and playing darts at the Elks. Many a happy hour was spent playing cards with the kids and grand kids, more often than not beating us, much to his delight. After all, he’d say, my granddaughter told me “Grumpy, you have skills”. His eyes would twinkle while belly laughs rang out.
Cookie was the beloved husband of Karen, cherished father of children/stepchildren Carmen Jackson, Tyler (Olivia) Jackson, Scott (Anne) Edwards and Kelly (Shaye) Edwards. Affectionately known as Grumpy (he was anything but) he will forever be missed by his adored grandchildren, Mackenzie and Marley Eaton, Odin and Ivy Jackson, and Declan and Maddoc Anderson. He was predeceased by his parents Reg and Mary Jackson and sister Susan Morris.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ann Thompson and staff of 2 South for their kindness and care of our sweet Cookie.
A Celebration of Life will be held at H.W.Wallace Cremation and Burial Centre on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 1:00 PM.

Relation: I worked with him
I was saddened to learn of Cookie’s passing this morning. I always felt like I had a special bond with him every time we’d see each other. Perhaps it was the fact we graduated from the same high school. He was great to work for and always brought a smile to my face whenever I saw him. He will be greatly missed. My sincere and heartfelt condolences go out to all his family and friends. Rest in Peace my friend.

Relation: Family Friend
I met “Cookie” through my parents friendship with Karen and the family. To Me, at the age of 13 he was larger than life, he never ceased to put a smile on my face for all the time I have known him. As I grew up I did not see as much of him as I would have liked, but he was always a point of conversation during discussions with my Dad, who was as close as friends could be with him. Cookie, you will be missed and cherished, but never forgotten. To Karen and the family, Our warmest and most heartfelt prayers & condolences to you in this time. Jason, Melissa & our family
