Audrey Moore (Nicholson)

February 11, 1928 - February 7, 2025

Tribute

Audrey passed away Friday, February 7, in her beloved home by the bay just 4 days shy of her 97th birthday.

Predeceased by her husband R. F. (Pat) Moore and brother Howard Nicholson (Nanaimo), Audrey is missed by her daughter Maureen (Gary) Duncan, son Robert Moore, grandchildren Alex Duncan, Sarah Moore (Kevin Johnson), Annie Moore (Mitch Renaud), Beth Moore (Adam Best) and four great-grandchildren: Emma, Sybil, Claire, and Darcy.

Born in Nanaimo and raised there and in Duncan, she met her high school sweetheart and future husband Pat before graduating from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1949. The newly-weds set off on an extensive cross-Canada RCAF adventure. Moving eight times in four years with newborns at each end, Pat & Audrey were happy to return to Duncan in 1956 and raise their family.

Pat & Audrey became passionate Canadian travellers, spring break skiers, Pacific Sands storm-watchers and warm-water cruisers. Designing and building a new home in Maple Bay in the 1970s, Audrey indulged her love of gardening, creating the space she cherished for the rest of her life.

In her later years, Audrey loved visits from her good neighbours and family along with her comforting routines: watching the birds and the bay, reading the paper, and commenting on the latest political follies, while maintaining her sense of humour to the end.

We’re grateful for the expertise and kindness provided by 911, North Cowichan Fire Department, BC EHS and the Cowichan District Hospital. Thank you to the kind neighbours and to Lori who allowed Audrey to remain in her own home.

Maureen and Bob I am so sad to hear that your mom passed away. I have so many wonderful memories of the times Kerry and I spent with you both and your mom and dad. Audrey was such a lovely person and a great friend to our mom. My deepest condolences to you both.

Bob, Maureen and families, we are so saddened to hear of Audrey’s passing. As a lifelong friend, we enjoyed many good times skiing and canoeing together with her and Pat. I have many memories of her and my Mom in roars of laughter that echoed throughout the room. RIP Audrey, I’m sure you and Mom will be sharing a chuckle together in your new home.
