Janet Cameron
March 8, 1951 - July 21, 2009
Tribute
Cameron: – Janet Louise passed away on July 21, 2009 after a brief battle with cancer. Jan was predeceased by her mother, Irene Cameron and father Doug Cameron. She is survived by her brother Stuart Cameron. Jan was a private person, but had a heart of gold underneath her gruff exterior and once she liked you, you were always her friend. She had a very full life and enjoyed travel, darts, golf and curling. In her early years Jan was involved in the Hang Gliding community and traveled throughout the world to competitions, making many life long friends. She was a talented knitter and if you were fortunate enough to receive one of her sweaters, you knew you had something special. Jan worked for the BC Forest Service for many years in various capacities, most recently as an Aviation Specialist and formed many close friendships within the aviation community. Jan will be dearly missed by all of her family and many, many friends. No service requested but a wake will be held in the near future (TBA). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be offered at www.hwwallacecbc.com

Relation: VERY GOOD FRIEND
Stuart & Family,
I am very sorry to hear of Janet’s passing and I truly share in your grief as I feel I have also lost a very dear friend from the past especially the Buena Vista days. If I was granted just one wish it would be to see all my departed friends once more and to hear their voices. Take care and talk to you soon.

Stuart, sorry to hear about Jan. We didn’t see her that often since she moved to B.C., but when we did the visits were great. I loved her sense of humour. If you get a chance, please contact my mother in Victoria (250 595 4346) she’d love to hear from you.

Stuart, it has been years since I saw Jan and even longer since I saw you. It’s a shock to hear she is gone. In my mind I can still hear her laugh. I have kept the bunting bag she knit for my daughter Sara, 32 year ago and the sweater she knit for Luke, my son, 30 years ago, they were treasured gifts.

I believe I met you once, you probably don’t recall, however Jan spoke of you often. I worked with Jan for many years in the Invermere Forest District office. She taught me how to do timekeeping and look after aircraft during fire season. I never saw her often after she moved to the coast, however she called me in 2003 when she was working at the SouthEAst Fire Centre in Castlegar and asked if I would come help her. I said sure, but wasn’t sure of how it would happen. Well, as we all know, Jan was capable of making anything happen, and I had approval to leave the next morning! I spent two weeks there with Jan, working together, long hours, and then having a nightcap together before doing it all again the next morning! We were so tired after two weeks we didn’t know which was up, but would have a few laughs along the way! I was most shocked to hear of her passing. I had tried to keep in touch with her, but you know Jan – it is on her time and for those of us who knew her, we were ok with that! I had been thinking of her a lot just prior to her passing. Wish I would have just called her. Anyhow, I have a lot of fond memories of Jan, and will cherish them. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.
