Helen Doman

Date of Death: June 3, 2023

Tribute

DOMAN, Harjinder Kaur (Helen/Jindo)

Helen passed on peacefully in Vancouver on June 3, 2023.

Survived by her devoted daughters and son, Darcia, Sherry, Verinda and Jaspaul (Rick), grandchildren, Natasha, Jeevan, Sienna, Jennece and her brothers Suhkdave (Dave) and Ojmar (Terry) Lashman and many relatives and friends.

Helen was predeceased by her loving husband Harbanse (Herb) Singh Doman, her father Lashman Singh, her mother Maha Kaur, her sisters Mahinder Kaur (Alice) and Harbans Kaur (Betty).

Helen will be deeply and forever missed by her family and remembered as a truly remarkable woman. She lit up every room with her smile and left a lasting impression on all those she met.

Helen’s early years were spent in Paldi, in 1948 the family moved to Duncan where she graduated from high school. She wanted to pursue a post secondary education, however, at that time there were no colleges on Vancouver Island.

Helen was a very intelligent well-read woman. She enjoyed working at Westwells, a home decorating store, and took great pride in working for the Municipality of North Cowichan.

Herb and Helen wed in 1955 and were happily married for 52 years. She devoted her life to taking care of her parents, husband, her children, the family home and garden.

She welcomed everyone into her home and entertained Herb’s business associates, relatives, friends and neighbourhood children.

Helen was self-taught in interior design, flower arranging, cooking, baking; even creating her own recipes. She was widely known for serving the best homemade food.

Helen was passionate about her family, the community and the world around her. She joined the IODE Canada, volunteered at the hospital, played bridge, had a sense of elegant style, collected antiques, practiced alternative health, and enjoyed politics.

Helen was authentic, honest, kind, compassionate, and fun-loving. Like her parents, she had a deep faith and was very spiritual, praying in solitude.

She had a great love for children, animals, and nature. Like her beloved mother, she had a deep fondness for dogs and both loved watching shows on animals.

Helen and Herb lived an extraordinary life such as meeting Princess Diana, christening a Panamax ship in Japan and dining with Prime Ministers.

Helen’s service will be held on June 17, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the New Life Baptist Church, 1839 Tzouhalem Road, Duncan, BC followed by prayers and lunch at the Paldi Temple.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish to donate in Helen’s name consider the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation, BC SPCA Cowichan, VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
