Gregory Meredith-Jones

November 23, 1944 - May 26, 2024

Tribute

Greg was born in Penticton, and raised in Duncan and Victoria with his sister Lynda, by loving parents Jack & Betsey Meredith-Jones.

Greg spent his youth in Duncan, playing baseball and hockey and early on worked as a commercial fisherman with his Dad. He spent many years driving trucks, first for his Dad’s company, Somenos Trucking, and then for Doman Transport and Trans Isle, where “Jonesy” made many lifelong friends and was known for his sense of humour and practical jokes. He enjoyed hockey, baseball, golf, vintage cars, visiting friends and neighbours, puttering, tinkering, and collecting, but above all, he loved his family and especially his grandchildren.

Over the years he made annual hunting trips, enjoyed boating and then time at their cabin on Horne Lake, followed by many camping trips on the Island and to the BC Interior. After retirement, there were fun trips south in the winter to enjoy golf and the warmth of Palm Springs and for the past few years, summers in their “happy place” at Surfside in Parksville.

Greg passed away on May 26, after suffering a severe medical incident five days earlier. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Evelyn, children Brad Lesiuk (Kim) and Dawn Fox (Myran), his grandchildren Carson, Parker, Ripley and Gavin, his sister Lynda (Leo), nieces Crystal & Jolene, and many other extended family members & friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Jack and Betsey, and his furry friends, Ginger, Muffin, Boxer, Goblin, and Jessie. Greg was a lover of nature, a constant teaser, and a great friend to many. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held at Cowichan Golf Course on June 8th from 2-5 pm. A special thank you to Nanaimo Palliative Care Unit, to all of the staff for their excellent care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the SPCA or to Palliative Care at Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation.

Entrusted to HW Wallace.
