Carol Ann Jensen ((Kennedy Fox))

December 5, 1938 - July 10, 2023

Tribute

Carol Ann (Kennedy Fox) Jensen

Dec 5 1938 – July 10, 2023

Born in Vancouver BC Dec 5, 1938, the youngest of three children of John (Jack) and Annie Kennedy of East Vancouver. An alum of Gladstone school, she ended school with a grade 10 education and took up work as a bookkeeper at East Asiatic Company in downtown Vancouver.

Married to Edward Fox in 1959, and widowed at age 22 with two children under 2. With the help and support of her parents and siblings, she struggled and survived as a single parent until remarrying in 1966 to Henning Jensen, moving to Vancouver Island and having two more children.

While residing in Gold River, she co-founded the Girl Guides chapter, ladies auxiliary at the church and made lifelong friendships. Carol took her knitting and sewing hobbies to new heights by developing skills in spinning and weaving, which eventually led to the purchase of 30 acres at Cowichan Station so that she could get access to wool on the hoof.

During the next 35 years at Cowichan Station, Carol opened a wool store in Duncan specializing in knitting supplies and clothing, continued studying fibre techniques and arts, and travelled extensively through her work as a travel agent.

She joined many community groups and clubs in the Cowichan Valley, and more often than not, ended up on the executive and as treasurer, and made many more lifelong friends. Cowichan musical society, Victoria Spinners & Weavers Guild, Medford Singers.

Through the struggles and challenges of the last 3 years, Carol maintained her role and hobbies to the best of her ability and never tired of talking about her passion for textiles and fibres, which was the love of her life.

She leaves behind a family and a huge circle of friends and family of choice, who loved her well.

Special loving thanks to Heather, Kate, Joanne and all the amazing staff and volunteers at Cowichan Hospice House.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for September 16th @2:00pm at Duncan United Church Hall – 246 Ingram Street, Duncan. All are welcome to attend and help celebrate Carol’s life.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Cowichan Hospice House in Carol’s name.

Relation: Life long friend

Sincere condolences to Carol’s family. Being raised 2 doors down from the Kennedy’s we were like a neighborhood family. Many great memories from over the years. So many fond memories. Rest in peace Carol.

From: Linda (Fraser) (Backlund) Blatchford
Relation: Carol was my good friend who I loved better than family.

I am heart broken to hear that my good friend and fellow Alto singer, Carol passed away. I called Carol my adopted mom and she called me her adopted daughter. I met Carol when we were both in the Cowichan Musical Society as we sang together in the Alto section for the ten shows I was involved in. I was also part of Medford singers with Carol once in a while. I loved Carol…her sense of humor, how she was brave enough to be a leader with new notes and new music. I loaned her my peddle machine so she could pedal her way into better health while sitting in her chair….I am sad that didn’t work to help keep her with us on this earth. Carol will be a super special singing angel for us all now. Rest in peace my friend….mom. I will miss your hugs so do not hesitate to squeeze me from heaven every now and again!

Relation: Friend

My deep condolences to Greg, Wendy, Lise, Andrew, your families and Carol’s close friends.
I met Carol through the Tzouhalem Spinners and Weavers Guild, where she was a Force and a Presence. She was an amazing woman with such an enormous interest and curiosity in the world, so many skills and talents, intelligence and humour, generosity and kindness. Her courage and strength were something to see. It was an honour to be thought of as her friend. She will be sorely missed by so many people in so many places. We’re going to be submitting entries to the Fairs. Really.
She’s out there somewhere, working on a project and feeling fine. I’ll be bringing her some chai.
Thank you, Carol.

From: Liz Hammond-Kaarremaa
Relation: Fibre friend

I didn’t know Carol well or for long but I know she was an exceptional person. She made friends of strangers and made them welcome. She was interesting and interested. I felt lucky to know her.

From: Norma Ritchie, Pacific Edge Chorus
Relation: I sang baritone with Carol.

Carol was a lovely Sweet Adeline singing baritone with Greater Victoria and City of Gardens Choruses from 2004-2012. We were very fortunate that she arranged for the various modes of transportation for City of Gardens’ fantastic performance and sightseeing tour of England and Wales in 2010 — the trip of a lifetime!

My condolences to Carol’s family and friends. I met Carol through 5W (Women Welcome Women World Wide), a women’s travel friendship organization. It was 2005, I had organized a Gathering in Vancouver which Carol, along with ten other members from Canada, USA, England, Scotland, Australia & Japan. I recall sitting on a large porch at our B&B, on a sunny fall, enjoying the company. Carol was articulate, smart, and funny. She spoke and listened well. Our paths crossed many times since then, sharing travel stories, life moments and usually warmth and laughter. The photo is from 2007, when Carol and Vancouver Island members met myself and members from Germany and France. That was a fun and memorable get together we often recalled. I liked Carol. I have met women from around the world through 5W, Carol was one of those that brightened my life.
