Berit Matson
January 30, 1936 - March 19, 2021
Tribute
Berit Matson passed away peacefully on March 19 ,2021 at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. She was born January 30, 1936 in Vora,
Finland and emigrated to Canada in 1960. She spent time on the Island in Port Alberni and in Ladysmith.
She raised three boys John, Roy and Ben Vesaranta (grandchildren Carly and Erik Vesaranta) and was predeceased by her father Johannes, mother
Ida and her brother. Berit worked at the West Coast Hospital in Port Alberni and the Ladysmith Hospital, once retired she volunteered at the Ladysmith Healthcare Thrift Store. She was extremely proud when she received her 30 plus year pin from VIHA and always enjoyed working with everyone. She always made lots of friends along the way. She was a kind soul and passionate about baking, gardening, and the outdoors.
She cherished her boys and her grandchildren was very proud of all of their accomplishments. She will be sadly missed; she had a heart of gold
and a smile we will never forget. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation www.heartandstroke.ca The family would like to thank all the Doctors, nurses and caregivers who gave exceptional care to mom.

Berit was always a sweet person to volunteer with. I miss seeing her at the Ladysmith Healthcare Auxiliary Thrift Store. She always presented a sort of calm, caring dignity.
