Tribute
The family of Lorraine Jane Gould (nee Cole) of Ladysmith, B.C. is saddened to share the news of her passing on October 16, 2024 at the age of 87.
Predeceased by her parents James and Ethel Cole, sister Wilma Bassett, brother Bob Cole and son-in-law Rob Clark.
Survived by loving husband Mick Gould, daughter Lana Clark, son Jim (Dana) Gould, grandchildren Courtney (Russ), Madeline (Sean), Lydia, Hope (Ryan), Max and “Rob’s people” – Lindsay (Roger), Katie (Gary), many great grandchildren and nieces and nephew.
Born in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba Lorraine moved to B.C. in 1956 to live with her sister in Nanaimo. She worked as a telephone operator for BC Tel for many years and had many girlfriends and could be found out and about at social venues.
Lorraine met Mick in January 1962 at the Pleasant Valley Dance Hall after a few previous encounters during nights out with her girlfriends. Married in June 1962 Lorraine and Mick moved to Ladysmith where they raised their two children. Lorraine worked in various retail locations in Ladysmith, you may know her from Red and White Grocery, Uncle Walters, Alexanders Bakery, Harbourview Grocery, The 49th Parallel or the Dollar Store. She volunteered with the Ladysmith Hospital Auxiliary, was a member of the Ladysmith Seniors and was a master bowler at the Ladysmith Bowling Alley. She could also be found at the Bingo Hall playing multiple cards and was a happy dabber.
Lorraine enjoyed her road trips back to the family farm in Gilbert Plains, MB, as well as family camping trips. She enjoyed many bus trips with her sister to Reno, travelled back to Edmonton several times to see her son and his children and made it to Las Vegas twice with her husband, daughter and son-in-law, always coming home with more cash than she left with! Lorraine loved rose bushes and had many colors growing in her backyard. Local visits to the store for scratch tickets and casino days were her favorite. She enjoyed Concerts in the Park at Transfer Beach, Elvis, Kenny and Dolly songs would get her feet moving. Lorraine also loved to crochet, donating blankets to the Hospital Auxiliary.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Browne and all of the loving staff at The Hamlets for their care and attention to Mama Lorraine. No service will be held.
