David (Bill) William Barclay

Tribute
Born in 1942, David William (Bill) Barclay passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the Cowichan District Hospital. A family man who loved living on Vancouver Island for the majority of his life, he leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Muts Barclay, his daughter Naomi (Grant), two grandsons Noah and Sam, brother John, and many relatives in both the Barclay and Kobayashi families. While working with the Ministry of Social Services for 36 years, Bill will be remembered as someone who served his clients with patience and caring and always worked towards preserving the dignity of the families he served.
In retirement, he had many activities which he loved to do. Mowing lawns, working in his garden (and many other people’s gardens), playing badminton, riding his road bike through the Cowichan Valley, attending many Victoria Symphony concerts and Cowichan Music festival performances, and spending time with his two grandsons, who will always remember him as their ‘Papa’. Papa/Bill attended many concerts and musical performances, always supporting his family in their musical pursuits.
We will miss his gentle nature, kind manner, and most of all, his bright smile. A gathering to celebrate Bill’s life will be scheduled later in the spring of 2025.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sunridge Place Seniors Community, Birch section, for their kindness and care for Bill. Any donations in memory of Bill can be made to Nourish Cowichan. During his career as a social worker, Bill recognized how important it was to ensure that families have enough food security in their lives.
