Philippa (Pip) Clare Woodcock

April 17, 1944 - August 1, 2023

Tribute

Philippa; Pip to her friends and loved ones, or “Grangie” to her grand and great grandchildren, died in peace at the Cowichan Hospice House on Tuesday 01 August surrounded by her children, following a recent diagnosis of cancer.

Pip had a strong and enduring faith, one that she practiced actively in the community. It was that faith in a just and compassionate God that allowed her to die in peace.

Pip developed strong ties in the different communities she lived in through her love of gardening, books, travel and service to others. She was a vibrant member of many communities, including Pickardville Alberta, Saturna Island, and Victoria following her family’s immigration from England  in 1976.

In recent years, she and her beloved husband, Derrick, made the Cowichan Valley their home, where she was active with St. Johns Anglican Church, as a Master Gardener with the Mill Bay Garden Club, the Intercultural Association, where she made many close friends from within the immigrant and newcomer community, and Big Brothers Big Sisters, where she mentored several children.

Pip is survived by her husband of 58 years, Derrick, her children: Frances (Richard); Sonja (Will); and Philip (Sandra), her grand children: Tabitha (Tavis); Kaiya; Maria; Sophie, Tomas; Tegan; and Oriel, and her great granddaughter, Sayla, her elder sister Anne and her family, and of course, Simon the cat.

Her life will be celebrated on Saturday 12 August at 11 AM at St. Johns Anglican Church in Cobble Hill where her family would love to welcome her many friends. Pip and her family would like to thank the professional and compassionate staff of the Cowichan Hospice House and would appreciate donations to the hospice in lieu of flowers.
