Colin Stewart Plumpton October 2, 1947 – July 28, 2023 passed away peacefully
surrounded by loving family after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Loving, kind and humorous, Colin was born in Rosyth, Scotland to parents Elizabeth and
William. Colin had a happy, adventurous and, at times, mischievous childhood growing up in
Scotland with his sister Margaret, cousin Billy, and all the rest of his family back home.
Regretfully, he never returned to Scotland to reconnect with his sister Margaret (Walter) and
meet his nephew (Graham) and nieces (Ruth, Claire). Although, it was one of his favourite
things in life to keep in touch with them regularly. He loved them all very much.
In 1968 Colin followed his cousin Billy to Canada settling in Port Alberni and working at
various jobs starting with B.C. Telephone, and ending at the Mill where he was part of the
safety committee. In 1977 Colin married Sheilla Jourdain, loving mother to his three children.
In 1991, Colin and Shiella moved to Nanaimo with their sons Steve, Ryan and Andrew. Colin
loved his sons very much, and was proud of each of them in their own way. He enjoyed
taking part in their childhood activities, especially coaching soccer. Colin worked various jobs
in Nanaimo before becoming a valued and much loved courier for Ace Courier Services.
In 1998 Colin and Sheilla decided to go their separate ways. In 2007, Colin met and fell in
love with Frieda. Colin and Frieda were married in 2009, and started their new life together.
Along with marrying Frieda, Colin gained two lovely step-daughters to his family, Sarah and
Jennifer, he adored them both. First living in Chemainus before moving to Mill Bay, Colin and
Frieda often remarked that they were destined to be with each other, and they thoroughly
enjoyed their 13 and a half years of marriage together.
Colin enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. Some of his favourite things were a good cup of
coffee, fish’n’chips (don’t forget the mushy peas), strumming his guitar, a hand of scrabble,
watching his favourite soccer teams, as well as watching Jeopardy every evening with his
wife Frieda. Colin treasured every moment of his time with his beloved wife. Enjoying many
happy memories together including their travels to Alberta and Quesnel to visit his
Brother-in-law Dave and his wife Anne. Ever the handyman, and putterer, he took pride in
his garden and always kept himself busy with his DIY projects. He loved reminiscing of his
youth in Scotland, and used his Scottish charm to make new friends wherever he went. Colin
and his family were also very proud of his 47 years of sobriety.
In his later years, Colin endured many health complications, always stoically facing the
challenges. Colin was determined to squeeze as many years with family and friends as he
could manage (especially for his grandchildren). Family was everything to Colin.
Colin is survived by his wife, Frieda, his sons, Steve, Ryan, and Andrew (Amber), step
daughters Sarah (Greg) and Jennifer (Chad) and many wonderful grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, staff and health care aids and the
Cancer Clinics who helped him fight for every last day that he had in the hospital and at
home. He appreciated all that you did to help him in his battle. A celebration of life is being
